The Agency for Gender Equality (AGE) within the Office of Prime Minister has organized today an event on occasion of International Women Day, where it was presented the Women Network in Decision-making Positions in Public Administration and Independent Institutions.
The meeting was opened by the Director of AGE, Mrs. Edi Gusia who stressed the importance of empowering of women in decision making positions and improvement of gender equality in state institutions. She assessed the progress achieved until now and stressed the need for continual support towards women in leading positions.
In his speech, the Prime Minster of Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Albin Kurti said that the Government has made an important steps to increase the representation of women in administration by underlying that in previous year, 63% of recruits in public administration were women.
“Despite many obstacles, women are achieving to overcome barriers and they are taking deserved place in public institutions. We have supported the employment of 12 Thousand women and we have ensured that the process of recruitment to be right and transparent”, said Kurti.
The British Ambassador in Kosovo, Jonathan Hagreaves congratulated on the achievement made by stressing that greater representation brings more right and transparent governance. “From 38 positions of Chief of Executive, only 7 are women, but we have to work to improve the situation of women, because in a leading positions that are less corrupted and they are bringing better quality in decision making” , he said.
.On occasional speech in this event appeared also Mrs. Vlora Spanca, General Auditor and Mrs. Leonita Shabani- Mullrama, General Secretary in Ministry of Economy. They shared their experiences and stressed the importance in inclusion of women in senior leading positions.
The event served as a platform for exchanging the ideas and to strengthen the cooperation of women in administration, by aiming further advancement of gender equality in Kosovo
