The Berlin Process is a broad platform of dialogue and cooperation between governments, civil society organizations and other actors to address these challenges to improve the conditions of gender equality in the region.
It is an important attempt to achieve an equal and inclusive society in Western Balkans. The subject includes international initiatives which were stressed as important. The Berlin Process which is functioning since one decade finally has included gender equality and women rights in its agenda, although currently this issue is considered still as “a side event”. The participants stressed that gender equality should be put in the heart of each policy and activity including attempts for reconsolidation.
Kosovo was mentioned as a unique example in global level for reparation towards the survivors of sexual violence during cooperation of Government and Women Organizations as well as political commitment. The Government supports not only the Commission for verification of the status of Survivors, but also four non-governmental specialized organizations.
Another special initiative that was presented is a measure by the Agency for Gender Equality (AGE) which aims economic empowerment of women that have family members missing during the war by acknowledging and support of all women regardless of ethnical background.
